A North Shore trade that measures first.
North Wave was built around one unglamorous idea: most heating problems on the North Shore were created on installation day, and they are avoidable if somebody does the arithmetic first.
We started because too many replacements were guesses.
The North Shore has a particular housing stock: a lot of homes built between the 1960s and the 1990s, many with hydronic heating, plenty with a pool or a hot tub bolted on later, and a surprising number still running poly-B pipe behind the drywall.
What we kept finding when we opened up those mechanical rooms was the same thing: an appliance far larger than the house needed, short-cycling itself to an early death, fitted by someone who matched the number on the old data plate and left. The homeowner paid twice: once in gas every month, and again when it failed years early.
So North Wave does the arithmetic first. Heat-loss calculations on every boiler job, capacity checks before we tie a pool into anything, a route walk before we quote a repipe. It is slower to quote that way and it costs us some jobs on price. We would rather lose those than hand someone a system that fails early.
We are based in North Vancouver and work across the North Shore, into Vancouver and Burnaby, and up the highway to Lions Bay and Squamish.
Three things we will not shortcut.
-
Measure before you sell
No boiler gets quoted off the sticker on the old one. A heat-loss calculation takes an hour or two and routinely shows the house needs half the appliance it has been running.
-
Say when the answer is 'not yet'
Plenty of what we look at can be monitored and budgeted rather than replaced this month. We would rather tell you that and keep you as a customer for the next fifteen years.
-
Leave the numbers behind
Combustion readings, zone settings and the model numbers all go on a commissioning sheet that stays with you, useful for the next service, and for the eventual house sale.
Who turns up at your door.
Small team, all ticketed, all directly employed, we do not subcontract the heating work out to whoever is free that week.
-
Licensed gas fitters
Boiler and tankless installs, gas line sizing, venting and combustion testing, permitted and inspected where a permit is required.
-
Journeyman plumbers
Repairs, repipes, fixtures and drains. The same crew that fits your heating, so there is no handover between trades.
-
Service & maintenance
Annual servicing that keeps warranties valid, plus the after-hours rotation that answers the no-heat calls in January.
