Why homeowners call us

The work that decides whether a system lasts fifteen years or five.

Most of what goes wrong with heating on the North Shore was decided on the day it was installed. We spend our time on the parts that are invisible afterwards.

  • Sized on a heat-loss calculation

We measure your house room by room instead of copying the rating off the old boiler. It is why our replacements usually come out smaller, and cheaper to run.

  • One licensed crew for all of it

Gas fitting, hydronics and plumbing under one ticket. Nothing near the tank or the manifold gets called the other trade's problem.

  • Fixed written quotes

One itemised price including venting, gas work and permits. If we think you need less than you asked for, we put that in writing too.

  • Commissioned and documented

Combustion tested, zones balanced, readings written on a sheet we leave with you. You get the numbers, not just an invoice.

What we look after

One heating plant. Four things riding on it.

How a job runs

Four steps, and you always know which one you are in.

Heating work goes wrong when nobody explains it. We would rather over-communicate and have you understand exactly what you are paying for.

  1. 01

Tell us what it is doing

Make, model, rough age and the symptom. For a lot of faults we can narrow the cause before we drive out, which means the right parts on the van.

  2. 02

    Measure, then quote

Heat-loss calculation for a boiler, a route walk for a repipe, a capacity check for a pool. Then one fixed, itemised price.

  3. 03

    Do the work cleanly

Floors protected, water off for the shortest window we can manage, and a daily update on anything running more than a day.

  4. 04

    Commission and hand over

Tested, balanced and set for your house. We walk you through the controls and leave the readings, manuals and rebate paperwork.

When to call

Six things a system does right before it costs you money.

If you recognise any of these, it is worth a phone call. Most of them are cheaper to deal with now than after the next cold snap.

Call (778) 558-5355
  • The boiler fires and stops again a few minutes later

Short-cycling. Usually an oversized unit or a control that was never set for the house, and it is quietly shortening the boiler's life.

  • Some rooms never really get warm

Nearly always a balancing or zoning problem rather than a boiler that is too small. It is usually fixable without replacing anything.

  • Hot water runs out part way through a shower

An undersized tank, a failing element, or a tankless unit being asked for more flow than its rating allows.

  • The gas bill climbed but the weather did not

A boiler that has drifted out of adjustment, or a system no longer reaching the temperature its efficiency depends on.

  • The pool takes two days to come up to temperature

Usually an undersized heat exchanger, or a pool drawing on capacity the boiler was never sized to give it.

  • Pressure has dropped, or there is a damp patch

Worth looking at early. Slow leaks and pressure faults rarely fix themselves, and they get more expensive once drywall is involved.

In their words

What North Shore homeowners say.

  • “Our 1978 boiler finally gave up in the middle of a cold snap. North Wave came out the same afternoon, got us running on a temporary fix, then did the full replacement the following week. They actually measured the heat loss for the house instead of just matching the old unit, the new boiler is roughly half the size and the upstairs bedrooms are warm for the first time since we bought the place.”

  • “Converted us from an old tank to a tankless unit. What I appreciated was that they talked me out of the bigger model I thought I needed and explained exactly why, gas line capacity, not marketing. Quote was fixed, the price at the end was the price on the quote, and they handled the FortisBC rebate paperwork with me.”

    Devon Oyelaran

    Tankless conversion · Lower Lonsdale

  • “We had a pool that took two full days to come up to temperature and a gas bill that made us stop using it. North Wave re-plumbed the heat exchanger loop and put the pool on its own zone off the boiler. It now heats overnight and the running cost is a fraction of what it was. They explained the whole thing in language I could actually follow.”

FAQ

Questions we hear a lot.

Still wondering about something? Call (778) 558-5355 , a person answers.

Do you cover all of the North Shore?

Yes. North Vancouver and West Vancouver are our core area, and we regularly work in Vancouver, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Lions Bay and Squamish. If you are outside that, call and ask; we will tell you honestly whether we are the right people.

How fast can you get here if we have no heat?

No-heat and no-hot-water calls are prioritised, and we aim to be there the same day. Out of hours a person answers rather than a machine, and we will talk you through making things safe while we are on the way.

Do you charge for a quote?

No. Quotes on replacements and planned work are free, including the heat-loss calculation for a boiler. Diagnostic visits on a fault carry a call-out fee, which we credit against the repair if you go ahead with us.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Licensed gas fitting and plumbing, fully insured, and we pull permits where a permit is required. If a quote you have is cheaper because it skips the permit, that gap can affect both your insurance and your eventual house sale.
